On June 26, 2026, within the framework of the Summer Course: University Vocations at Universidad Panamericana Aguascalientes, the urban workshop “Trama y Bloque, your voice, your ideas, your city…” was held. The activity brought together high school students from Aguascalientes as well as from Morelos, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, and other regions, with the aim of supporting them in choosing their future academic paths.
Throughout the week, each School and Faculty offered three-hour workshops. The School of Architecture invited students to work on an emblematic sector of the city that includes Parque Hidalgo, Templo La Purísima, Mercado de la Purísima, local businesses, and major thoroughfares.
Seven teams of six students were formed, each participant assuming a specific role: environmentalists, real estate developers, neighbors, merchants, vulnerable groups, and urban architects. Using LEGO pieces assigned to urban uses—housing, commerce, offices, public facilities, green areas, and industry—the teams designed balanced development proposals while considering the demands of local associations such as merchants, residents, and schools.
The outcomes varied: some prioritized environmental protection, others focused on improving vehicular mobility, while others emphasized commercial growth. At the end of the session, participation diplomas were awarded to all students, and the winning team received special recognition.
Conceived as a pilot project, this initiative will become the flagship workshop of the School of Architecture, to be presented in more high schools across Aguascalientes and other cities. The experience allowed students to grasp the complexity of urban decision-making and to practice negotiation among diverse stakeholders, resulting in creative proposals for the development of Parque Hidalgo and its surrounding area.
