The School of Architecture at Universidad Panamericana, Aguascalientes campus, hosted the Colloquium on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Architecture, a thought-provoking event that brought together distinguished academics from three countries to discuss the evolving role of AI in the profession.
The panel featured Dr. Jonathas Magalhanes Pereira da Silva from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas in São Paulo, Brazil; Arq. Fredy Massad Japas from Universidad de Navarra, Spain; Dr. Rubén Andrés Alcolea Rodríguez from Roger Williams University, United States; and Mtro. Luis Arturo Méndez Alba, Dean of the School of Architecture at Universidad Panamericana.
The session was skillfully coordinated by Ing. Aurora Idalia Jáquez, who guided the discussion through a series of incisive questions posed to the experts, including:
Is AI truly creative?
What notable examples of AI applications in architecture can you mention?
What developments are currently underway in your home universities in this field?
Which AI platforms do you recommend exploring?
How is AI adoption progressing in private architecture firms?
What must architect and architecture students do to remain relevant?
Ultimately, do you believe architects could be replaced by AI?
Each question was addressed in depth by the four panelists, leading to a rich and dynamic exchange of perspectives. The discussion explored AI’s potential to enhance design processes, its current and emerging applications in architecture, and the professional skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven future.
The event concluded with an open Q&A session, allowing attendees to further engage with the speakers and gain valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities AI presents to the architectural profession.
With this colloquium, the School of Architecture reaffirmed its commitment to fostering critical debate on technological innovation and its impact on the future of the discipline.
