Guanajuato Workshop 2026: Architecture, History, and Experiential Learning
As part of their academic training, 17 students from the Architecture Program at Universidad Panamericana, Aguascalientes Campus, representing every cohort within the School of Architecture, participated in Guanajuato Workshop 2026, held on September 21, 22, and 23 in the City of Guanajuato.
The workshop was led by Dr. Enrique X. de Anda Alanis, Dr. Brenda Díaz Macías and Dean Luis Arturo Méndez Alba, who guided the students through an academic experience focused on the architecture, history, and urban development of one of Mexico’s most iconic cities.
Under the guidance of Dr. De Anda Alanis, a specialist in Architectural History, students gained a deeper understanding of a city renowned for its exceptional architectural and urban heritage. Guanajuato is distinguished by its adaptation to a mountainous landscape, featuring winding streets and alleyways, irregular plazas, tunnels, and bridges, as well as an important architectural legacy dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries, where Baroque, Neoclassical, and Mexican Colonial styles converge.
Throughout the workshop, participants visited some of the city’s most representative landmarks, including the Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato, the Juárez Theater, the Alóndiga and the University of Guanajuato, whose central building and iconic staircase stand as architectural and cultural symbols of the historic center.
As part of the academic activities, students completed an architectural sketching exercise from the Monument to El Pípila, capturing perspectives of some of the city’s most emblematic buildings. The results showcased their talent, keen observational skills, and understanding of the built environment.
This workshop strengthened the students’ education by providing direct engagement with a city recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, allowing them to appreciate, analyze, and understand its historical, urban, and architectural richness from a professional perspective.
