COIL with the Kyoto Arts and Crafts University
May 8th 2024.
Within the subject of Architectural Composition IV directed by teachers Dr. Brenda Estefanía Díaz Macías and Mtro. Raúl Alberto Dávila Espinoza, a COIL (Cooperative Online International Learning) is carried out in connection with the architectural projects class of Dr. Shunichiro Higashi from the Kyoto Arts and Crafts University (KYOBI) in Japan.
The COILs consist of integrating classes from both universities sharing a topic in which teachers and students from both universities participate. The two groups share online classes with teachers for two or three weeks to develop a project that at the end of the process must result in evidence.
For this COIL, Dr. Higashi's wisdom in the management of color in architecture has been used so that the Mexican students develop a museography project applying the Japanese architectural concepts that Dr. Higashi explained in his presentation on May 8th.
Previously, as an introduction to the topic, Mr. Luis Arturo Méndez Alba, dean of our school of architecture, presented a lecture in which he spoke about his experiences of work and collaboration with Japanese institutions. Japanese culture is fascinating; however, it requires in-depth knowledge to put yourself in the correct context when collaborating with Japanese people.
The project will be brought to reality by applying the results at the end-of-semester ExpoArq of the School of Architecture at the Aguascalientes Museum on June 7, 2024.
