Attainable Housing and Quarry Concert Hall
Within the framework of collaboration between the School of Architecture and MVE+Partners of the United States, our 6th semester group was integrated into a joint project to develop accessible housing and a concert center using the land of a disused mine.
MVE+Partners is a prestigious international architecture firm with offices on the west coast of the United States and in Mexico. The MVE+Partners office in Los Angeles, California, in coordination with the Guadalajara office directed by Architect Liliana Bernardis, proposed to our School of Architecture at the Universidad Panamericana in Aguascalientes the development of proposals for a topic of great current relevance: accessible housing.
It is known that there is a large deficit of single-family housing throughout North America, so it was decided to develop viable proposals in this regard. Although the initial concept consisted of the development of housing, during the process it was considered viable to integrate the challenge of designing a concert hall into the urban complex, taking advantage of the disused mine.
The result of the concert hall portion of the project was submitted as a contender for the Quarry Concert Hall Award in Liverpool, England.
The team of 6th semester students was led by architects Arturo Barros and Alberto Serna, who during the school year of the first semester of 2024 guided the group until significant progress was made in the project.
The results were presented on August 7 and 10 both at ArquiExpo VI and at MVE+Partners, both events marking the end of the first academic semester of 2024 at the Universidad Panamericana.
The project also had the review of Architect Ana Lucía Ramírez, project director of MVE+Partners, as well as the coordination of Dr. Brenda Estefanía Díaz Macías and Mtro. Luis Arturo Méndez Alba, academic secretary, and dean of the School of Architecture, respectively.
